My How Times Have Changed

Reality TV is getting sexier and sexier with every new episode. I watch a lot of the MTV and VH1 reality shows and I think those are probably the worst when it comes to too much sex. Tila tequila is a bisexual that is looking for love with both men and women on her show and they all sleep in one giant bed! I think that people from the old days would die if the ever saw these shows. What made me realize how much of a difference there is between the older generation and the new one was the other night when I was visiting my grandmother. She was talking about her and my grandfathers songs they dedicated to each other throughout their lives and then she stopped and burst out laughing. Of course we all wanted to know what she was laughing about so hard so we asked her to tell us, but she said it was too raunchy and risque. We kept asking her to tell us, even though I was kind of nervous that I wouldn't even want to hear what she was going to say. Finally when she stopped laughing she told us that my grandfather sang her a song that went "Will you still love me when my engines broken? when my bolts are rusty?", something like that. So we were all laughing hysterically because if she thinks that's raunchy then what would happen if she sat down and watched Tila Tequila or Flavor Flav!? That was kind of a long story but I think it proves how much times have changed, imagine how much sex we are going to be seeing in the future!!

I'll Never Stop Downloading Illegally

Although I know downloading music is wrong and I could get in trouble for it I would never stop doing it. What am I suppose to do go out and buy every CD that comes out to see if I like the songs on it? No way! I don't have the time or money to do that. I guess I could go on itunes but they never have all the songs that I want and I don't want to pay 2 dollars when I know I can get it for free. One of my cousins has gotten sued by Kazaa for downloading music illegally and they had to pay money to the company. I was shocked when I found out and I thought about stopping my illegal downloading but instead I just went to a different website to download from. I guess I won't learn my lesson until I get sued (knock on wood). Morally I don't think I am doing anything wrong, I am supporting the artists by listening to their music and if they make a really good CD then I will go buy it. I think that some day they will make downloading music off the computer legal and then we won't have to worry about getting sued for it, but until then I will keep braking the law and hope that I won't get caught!

My Thoughts on Body Image in Commercials!

After listening to the presentations in class today it made me really think about commercial's depictions of women. It is true that every commercial you see has a skinny beautiful model. That is an extremely bad influence on children especially these days when beauty is so stressed to young girls. Like we were talking about today in class, even the dove commercials that are suppose to be about not having the perfect body still have pretty women. I guess it is good for girls to see that different body types can be on TV commercials too but I don't think it is enough. On the other hand I try to put myself in the position of the buyer of the products and I know that I wouldn't want to buy a lipstick from a fat, ugly, old lady, so in a way the strategy works. A company is not going to put themselves in a position were they could lose money just so young girls don't develop eating disorders. I think that this problem will never be fixed there will always be skinny, fit, beautiful girls in commercial so maybe we need to start teaching our kids more about having self confidence.

Movie Industry in Trouble??

Just like the music industry the movie industry may be in losing sales. There is a new website out called Surfthechannel.com that allows you to stream new movies as soon as they are in theaters. This could mean a huge loss in movie sales for the industry. They are trying to get rid of the site but it is hard to track down the operator of it. I think that if the price of going to see a movie wasn't so expensive then people wouldn't go online to watch them as much. Going to the movies is one of the biggest things to do when you are bored or want to just go out so it will never stop making money, unlike just going out to buy a CD. So I don't think they have that big of a problem on their hands.
