Internet Addiction, a Real Thing!!!!

So I was doing my usual looking online for media news that I can use to write a blog and I came across something very interesting. There is an actual disease called DSM-V, which is an addiction to the Internet. I couldn't believe this!! I mean I know people that are always checking their facebook and myspace and that never get off aim but really? An actual addiction?? The research for Internet addiction first started in South Korea after several cardiopulmonary-related deaths in Internet cafes and after a game related murder. They consider Internet addiction one of its most serious health problems. Can you actually believe this because I cant!?!?!? This is not only a real disease, it is a serious problem in some places. So all you gamers and myspaceaholics beware because you might have a serious problem on your hands! This is the link to see the actual article...http://ajp.psychiatryonline.org/cgi/content/full/165/3/306

I believe that people are just bored a lot so they go online because it is vast in information. I also believe that some things are made up when it comes to medical conditions (restless leg syndrome? COME ONN). I guess just get outside whenever you possibly can and get a life haha... there's a good solution.

P.S. Blogging is not helping out my internet addiction either.

hahahahha. This is to funny because i don't believe it. I believed that people our age are just bored a lot and the internet is a way for them to communicate with their friends.I think people need to stop making things up and focus on more real problems.

Am not sure that its an addiction but i think that it is a problem. Take people who have sidekicks for example...they are alwaysss onlineeeee...sometimes for dayss at a time. I think we all have a problem to some degreee but i wouldn't call it an addiction. I know i would be lost without my cell phone and others can say the same thing too

The article didn't load for me, but I'm guessing that while there are certainly psychologists that are ASSERTING it's a disease and NAMING it as such, still the APA hasn't made any kind of move on a national level. And heck, 40 years ago they were claiming that homosexuality was a disease, so I'm doubly skeptical. Folks can have a problem with any number of things, but it's a marker of something that's wrong with folks between their own ears--that's not crack coming down our DSL cables...
